What's your favorite film and camera combination to shoot with, and what do you love about it?

My absolute favorite camera is my Hasselblad 500cm. She’s a beauty! It feels good in my hands, and the images are stunning. It’s a slower camera to use, so it’s one I always push myself to shoot more of on wedding day.

What do you consider essential to your approach to film photography?

Understanding film and its personalities is key to knowing what kind of images you’re going to get. Testing film and their limits is also key. You can overexpose film and it still looks great, but it’s hard to save a muddy underexposed shot. Shooting with film takes time, patience, and a lot of practice, but don’t be intimidated by it. Film is a beautiful medium, and once you get the hang of it, and when you have the right kind of camera in your hands, that’s when you see the magic. Shooting film also helps me slow down a bit and stay present in the moment to capture those cinematic and candid shots my clients love so much.

Did you begin your photography journey with film or digital, and how has it evolved?

I did! I grew up with it. Digital came second in my life.

Do you develop your own film, and do you have a preferred lab for processing?

Richard Photo Lab does all my processing and scanning.

Are there any film photographers you admire?

Garry Winogrand is probably my favorite photographer. Nan Goldin a close second.

Why do you think couples should consider including analog film for their wedding?

I don’t think it should matter if you want film or digital. What should be at the forefront of your decision is asking yourself, how do the photos make you feel? And, can you imagine yourself in the photos? Film is a medium that I prefer using because I love it, it lights me up, and it’s something I would want. The foundation of who I am as a photographer comes from looking at old family albums, and all the images I grew up with are film. The nostalgia of it and its imperfections go hand in hand with my aesthetic.
